Some scholars also suggest that she purposefully issued this depiction to make herself seem intimidating to political enemies. Other coinage shows different profiles. I hate this debate over whether Cleopatra was attractive, though: she was an incredibly skilled and ruthless politician that put her own siblings to death and was able to manipulate the most powerful empire in history to maintain her own country’s independence until her death. She was a BAMF; who cares if guys today would think she’s hot?
bluebears:

This is “Cleopatra’s Coin,” supposedly a depiction of her face. I think it looks totally bland and indistinct. However three dudes on the NGO show I am watching about Cleopatra have shown the coin and said basically, “it shows she was clearly no great beauty.”
Does it ever occur to these assholes that different cultures have different standards of beauty? Ever? Does that thought ever creep across their small little minds?
